Picnic Baskets

Mystic offers a number of beautiful picnic sites, from Esker Point Beach in neighboring Noank to Gillette Castle State Park, home to legendary stage actor, William Gillette. Should you have an interest in a picnic site, we are happy to suggest parks and areas accessible by car or bicycle.

The Mansion’s picnics are packed in traditional baskets. Picnicking in Mystic is a wonderful way to enjoy our beautiful environment. If you’d prefer to stay close to home, our gardens provide the perfect setting.


Picnics must be ordered at least 24 hours in advance.



Mystic River Park

A small park tucked along the scenic Mystic River, next to the Mystic Drawbridge and a five-minute walk from the Mansion, offers a nice grassy spot to spread out a blanket and watch the boats go by.


Esker Point Beach Park

The park provides facilities for saltwater swimming and picnicking under a grove of shade trees. A snack bar, restrooms and lifeguards are available during the summer season. This site offers expansive views of Long Island Sound and Mouse Island.

Enders Island

This little-known gem boasts serene waterfront gardens alongside heavenly views of the sound. All are welcome to visit the 11-acre island, which is home to the society of St. Edmund, an order of catholic priests and brothers.

Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center

Offering acres of wooded trails, scenic meadows, brooks and ponds. There are benches located on the preserve as well as several tables around the nature center. There is a small fee to enter the grounds.

Stonington Borough Point

Stonington Point, next to the Old Lighthouse Museum, is a scenic spot at the end of the village to enjoy a picnic with sweeping harbor views of the three states of New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Gillette Castle State Park

Unique fieldstone castle was home to legendary stage actor, William Gillette. The 184-acre park is situated on a hill overlooking the Connecticut River. Gillette, best known for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes on stage, designed his house with intricately carved locks and wood doors. The park offers hiking trails and picnic spots.
